My Ethnography essay is on an individual who is part of the heavy metal subculture and is a guitar player. I decided to do it on an individual of the heavy metal subculture because I was introduced to that subculture by my boyfriend, who I am doing this on.
Most people in the heavy metal subculture have long hair or are bald, while he has brown hair down to his ears. He wears blue plain jeans and most of the time black t shirts with different metal bands on them. He always wears black sneakers with a gray Nike sign. He wears no jewelry like most of the people in the heavy metal subculture.
There are two things that are his favorite possessions and they arte his guitars. He has a sunburst Godin freeway classic which is a special design since it’s made to be light. The other guitar he has is from the Schecter Domain special.
During the week he interact with his friends by doing many different things like band practice, playing shows or just hanging out. Every Tuesday he has band practice with his friends who are in his band. They have band practice at his drummer’s basement there they have all the speakers and everything else they need. While at his band practice you can hear them talking about the new songs they are going to write and the places they are going to do shows at. You’ll see them all playing and just having a good time.
If you go to the store with him you’ll notice he mostly buys stuff that he needs to play his guitar. He mostly goes to Daddy’s music store in Dartmoth where he gets any music equipment he needs. The most things I see him buy are Picks, guitar strings, fret board cleaner and string guitar toner. He is always going to the music store for something he needs or just to check out the different things they have there. The walls of the music store are full of Guitars and basses and then all the other equipment around the store.
Three future dreams and they are to get signed to a record company with his band, play music for a living and see the world. He wants to get signed to a record deal so he can play around the world. He wants to play music for a living since he loves playing Guitar. The two places he wants to go to in the future are Germany and Finland since they have huge heavy metal festivals there where a lot of his favorite bands play.
He has a few influences mainly guitar players and other metal bands that he listens to. Some of the Guitar players that have influenced him are Yngwi Malmsteen and Jane Liimattenen who are famous guitar players. One of the metal bands that influence him to write his own music is Sonata Arctica.
I have found this subculture interesting since I never really listened to music or was ever interested in it. Over the eleven months I have found out that Metal music was really cool to listen to and that there were a lot of nice people in that subculture. This is my Ethnography essay on an individual of the subculture Heavy Metal.

1st draft Struggling with a speech Impediment
I was born about a month premature. I was diagnosed with a speech impediment which in my case I had a hard time saying certain words, letters, making sentences and I would stutter or mumble when I tried to talk to anyone.
I started speech therapy at the age of three since that was when people noticed I had a speech impediment. I’ll always remember how it was in school. When I started school I had to be taken out of classes about three times a week for therapy, there weren’t that many other students who were pulled out of class. I hated this since I was always made fun of for having special classes. I remember time when I was in middle school and the speech therapist came to the classroom door to get me since she was new and everyone started whispering and laughing at me until I left the class.
I was always self conscious of my speech and became very shy and quiet. This made it difficult to have many friends since while in school and in daycare I didn’t talk at all most of the time I still don’t talk that much except around people I know since I always thinks I’m being judged based upon the way I talk. I never liked and still don’t like speaking aloud in class. It stinks when I’m in classes and I know something but just can’t get myself to raise my hand or just say what I want to.
Once I started middle school having a speech impediment affected me the most since the other kids in my classes would make fun of me and thought it was fun. I always went home hating school since out of school I could be myself and not have to worry about being made fun of. I was always called retard and stupid. Being called retard hurt me the most because I never understood why people could just call others names like that. After 7th grade I was starting to get sick of being made fun of and leaving classes for speech therapy so finally I asked if I had to go anymore. My speech therapist said that I have had all the help they could give me so I finally I was happy not having speech therapy. I still have problems with speech and socializing with people but I have some amazing friends now and a lot of people there for me now.
Having a speech impediment has made me see the world differently and has made me different from other people since I don’t go around making fun of everyone since I know everyone is different. This is my personal essay about struggling with speech.
